A uniform sweater is popular in many parts of the country not only to keep the individuals warm but to look very stylish as well. Before making a purchase you will need to answer two very simple questions about the sweaters that you want to buy. First, what do you want them to be made of and secondly, what style of sweater do you want your staff in. Here is some information on uniform sweaters to make the decision easier for you:
Wool
Wool has many advantages to it as it can make for a durable uniform sweater. Wool also tends to repel moisture, retain its shape while being worn and is comfortable in all seasons. You do need to be careful while cleaning wool as it has a tendency to shrink after washing.
Cashmere
Cashmere is considered a higher-end wool which comes from the Kasmir goats in Asia. This is why it will cost you more to purchase cashmere. Cashmere is known to be very warm. This allows you to stay warm, even with a thin garment.
Cotton
Many employees like the look and feel of a cotton sweater. They can be very soft and comfortable; however, this makes them susceptible to being easily damaged. You will want to make sure that these garments are cleaned with cold water so they do not shrink.
Crew Neck
A crew neck sweater is what many call a "normal neckline." It is typically used as a uniform sweater over a polo shirt or an oxford dress shirt. Since a crew neck sweater always has long sleeves, you can wear a short sleeve shirt underneath it so you can wear your summer uniform shirts all year.
V-Neck
A V-Neck is exactly as it sounds. It comes together on the chest in a V. Worn as a uniform, this type of sweater can be logoed on either side of the chest or sleeves. It can be worn over a polo shirt or a dress shirt for a great look or simply for warmth.
Scoop Neck
A scoop neck is any ladies garment in which the neck line is lower than usual. Typically with a sweater being thicker, a scoop neck on a sweater is pretty conservative and works well as a uniform sweater.
Turtleneck
A turtleneck sweater is usually reserved for the winter months. As the collar of the turtleneck sweater covers your entire neck. Depending on the thickness of the garment it can be worn alone or underneath a sport coat or other outdoor jacket.
Cardigan
Many areas of the hospitality industry will use a cardigan sweater as their choice of a uniform sweater as it is very conservative looking and not quite as formal as a blazer. The cardigan will be worn over another shirt as another layer.
Sweater Vest
This garment can be worn year round depending on the weight of it. A light weight sweater vest can be a cool layering item for any season. Layer your sweater vest over a dressy shirt or polo sport shirt for a crisp, classy and casual look for your uniforms.
