Play Each Shot With A Purpose With A Pre-Shot Routine

The quest for lower golf scores is the reason every golfer practices their golf swing and pre-shot routine for hours on end and in all conditions. Shooting lower golf scores is not a simple task. Here are some very simple steps to follow to give you the best chance to shoot your best scores and to lower your handicap.

Play the shot you are the most comfortable with and not always the hero shot.

You must have a good handle on the talents that you do have. Most of us understand that we are not Tiger Woods or Ernie Els. Every golfer has heard at one time or another that sometimes you need to take your medicine. Take an honest appraisal of your situation as well as your ability. Taking this into consideration will help you decide the right shot and the club needed to play it. Forget what everyone else is doing. This is about you against the golf course and how to make the safest and lowest number possible on the hole. Ask yourself if you would rather lower your score or stroke your ego.

So what does this really mean? You need to understand the percentages before you play your golf shot. This does not mean that you should always "chip out" if you are in trouble. Think about the real percentages at making the risky lower-percentage shot and consider all of the possibilities, good and bad, if you play this shot. By implementing this decision making process into your preshot routine, you can lower your scores in your next round by weighing all of the possibilities before you play a golf shot. This is not just limited to trouble shots. From the fairway looking at a front flag and a bunker guarding the front of the green, Take one more club and be comfortable to hit the ball in the middle of the green and have your chance at a birdie!

You will see your scores start to come down when you implement a preshot routine and begin playing the correct shot. It is a part of the game that you will hear a lot about as you watch a golf tournament on TV. However, it is hard to follow because you do not necessarily get a .good look. at the golf hole.

Again, know your CURRENT abilities and not what you saw Tiger pull off over the weekend. Going through your preshot routine, you will be able to select the shot that you are comfortable with and the lower scores will come sooner than later.
