Capturing this beauty for eternity on canvas is not an easy task. Linda Hartough has done just this and won herself a place in the hearts of golf enthusiasts world over. Generally golf courses are beautifully landscaped. Many even will say that golf courses are extraordinarily beautiful. Covered with lush green grass, the undulating landscape, the water bodies, the sandy patches in between make a golf course an exotic place and a delight to spend an afternoon.
Linda Hartough has been recognized as the foremost artist of golf. She has focused her skills in recreating landscapes and has successfully recreated some of the most beautiful golf courses of this world. A child prodigy who has been painting since the age of six, Linda is an American.
Brought up in the picturesque locales of American countryside of Wilmington, Delaware and Kentucky, Linda captures the natural beauty so realistically, that her oil paintings and golf prints come alive and project golf courses with their entire splendor. Her attention to details is legendary and her paintings have a clarity which rivals photographs captured by a camera.
Hartough is an alumnus of prestigious school of the Art Institute of Chicago. After getting her degree in 1970 she spent her time in Chicago, selling her paintings for a living. Her tryst with golf began in 1984 when she was commissioned to paint 13th hole at Augusta National. By then she had moved to Hilton Head and had started focusing on landscapes.
In 1988 when Hartough unveiled her work during PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, the response was tremendous. Linda was hooked for life on golf courses and she focused entirely on bringing the golf courses to life through her paintings.
Hartough has unique approach to capturing the beauty of a golf hole. She spends several days at a golf hole capturing the picture of the landscape several times a day through a camera in different lighting conditions and observes the finer points of the location. She then captures the golf hole using her visual observation skill and the photographs on canvas, making it come alive.
Linda Hartough is now internationally acclaimed for her Golf paintings. She has the distinction of being the only artist to have ever been commissioned by both United States Golf Association and Royal and ancient Golf club of St Andrews for annual official US open and British open championships. She was featured in two ABC television shows hosted by the legendary Jack Nicklaus. Her paintings are in many private collections around the world and in some of the famous golf clubs like Augusta National, Pine Valley, Pine Hurst, Laurel Valley etc.
Perhaps the secret of Linda Hartough’s success is that she enjoys every moment of her work. In her very own words she will tell you "I really enjoy painting golf landscape. It is some of the most beautiful and varied landscape in the world combined with a deep, historical sense of tradition that transcends time. The painting is a success when both elements emerge." Linda is truly a gift to golf from the art world.
