Launch Monitors - 5 Tips When Buying A Launch Monitor
In the quest to hit a drive farther and farther, many golf instructors and golfers themselves have turned to newer technology in launch monitors. As the technology has improved and become more affordable, companies are making even personal launch monitors reasonable and packed with technology such as Doppler radar!
Whether you are looking to purchase launch monitors for your personal use or you are going to implement one in a teaching academy, there are a number of things that you will need to consider in order to make the best purchase for your circumstance. Here are just a few:
1. Is the launch monitors technology leading edge or obsolete?
May sound funny to ask this type of question but think about your computer. It seems like as soon as you purchase it, something is out there bigger and better. You will need to determine what is best for you and your situation. If you are purchasing personal launch monitors, then this may be fine. If you are looking to use the unit at a golf academy then you will want to be as up to date as possible.
2. Contact existing users of the product for candid opinions of which monitor they use and what has their experience been like.
I have done this many times and have even been invited to make a visit to watch it in action. Everyone has a different space and different challenges. I found that I usually learned more about the unit from these visits than anything else.
3. Evaluate the total cost.
When you are looking at purchasing a larger golf swing monitor, what else are you going to need to make it operate properly? Some launch monitors require to be connected to a computer or a lap top. You may need more computer power (memory, etc.) than you currently have available to you on your current computer. You will also want to make sure of all of the cords that need to be purchased in order properly connect the unit.
4. What is the warranty?
As you know, the available warranty may vary quite a lot from manufacturer to manufacturer. Make sure that you know exactly what is covered and what is not. Again, you want to find other users that have had to use the warranty and find out how easy or difficult the manufacturer made the process.
5. Contact the company’s customer service department.
The manufacturer should make their customer service number readily available. You will want to determine the responsiveness of the support team as well as how willing they are to help you with your questions. In addition, find out about the hours that the support team is available on the weekends as well as any hidden charges such as weekend support charges.
Now that the technology is available and affordable there is no reason that you cannot improve you distance or improve your students distance by using launch monitors. In addition, golf instructors can create a new revenue stream for themselves by implementing it into their teaching program.
