The golf fundamentals are important to every golfer. It really does not matter if you are just learning the game or you have been playing for years at a high level, the golf fundamentals do not change. The best players in the world like Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are constantly working on golf fundamentals to improve their scores.
As you watch golf on television, all of their swings look a little different because of a few factors. For instance, one of the players may be taller or shorter than one another and in another instance maybe one player is built a little thicker than another player. Never the less the club is returned to a good position at impact to result in the ball flight that the player had picture prior to the shot.
Below are the golf fundamentals that you should be learning about or discussing with your instructor to improve your game:
Grip For the most part there are three different grips and all can be used successfully. The three golf grips are the overlap grip, interlock grip and the baseball grip. Most (keyword) players have a grip that is too weak. This simply means that their left hand (for a right handed player) is not nearly far enough on the right side of the shaft. This is a main reason why many players will hit it to the right or slice the golf ball.
Balance We will discuss balance throughout several of the following topics. Most golfers can improve just by making their golf swing and then count to three in their finish position without wiggling their feet or simply falling over. Sounds easy, huh? Try it and watch your ball flight improve!
Stance and Posture This is where most people lose their balance and they have not even swung yet! Most get into trouble by slouching over to the golf ball and not bending over from their hips. This will make you feel like your pockets are going behind your heels. This is the counter balance for your hands being out in front of you.
You will need to check your balance in two directions. First, check your balance from side to side. Usually everyone is ok here. Second check your balance from heel to toe. Move back and forth from your toe to your heel until you find the center. Now you are ready. Alignment Sometimes golf fundamentals seem so easy but the mind will play tricks on you. Your alignment is one of these golf fundamentals. Without properly setting up where you want the ball to go, you will need to make compensation moves in order to start the golf ball on its proper line.
Finish Again, this golf fundamental goes back many times to balance. If you can make a complete swing and finish in balance, many good things have typically happened. In addition, this will give you time to check that you have properly rotated towards your target line.
Working on these few golf fundamentals will improve your game and your scores very quickly!
