You can lower your golf scores with a golf club fitting. No matter what kind of club you are looking for, you should get a golf club fitting so your new clubs properly fit you and your golf swing. Although the brand of golf equipment that you use is a very personal choice, the fact is the only thing that matters is that your golf clubs work for you. The only way to figure this out is to have a golf club fitting done by a certified PGA Professional. Whether you are a rank beginner or a skilled low handicapper, when you take your set up, you must like the club head design that you are looking down at. If you do not feel like you can make a good swing with a club, the odds are you will try to manipulate the golf club and you will probably not make a good swing.
A golf club fitting can be performed by a PGA Professional that has been certified by the manufacturer that you are looking to purchase. How do you go about finding the right PGA Professional to perform a golf club fitting for you? Ask a lot of questions. Just like you are trying to find a doctor or a dentist, ask your friends, co-workers and call golf shops to gather information.
A short list of questions that you should ask the professional PRIOR to your golf club fitting are as follows:
Will the golf club fitting take place outside? If the answer to this question is no, then move on to the next fitter. Watching the ball flight is a must.
Do you have a fitting cart for _______ (insert Titlest, Callaway, Ping, King Cobra, Cleveland, Etc.) Again, if the answer is no, move on.
Are you a certified fitter and how many fittings do you do in a week or month? This question is important because the products are changing quicker and quicker. This makes it more and more difficult for many professionals to stay on top of the new information. You want someone who is fitting clubs often and is on top of the new shafts and the shafts specs that are available.
A question that I get quite often is "Why do I need to be fitted for my set of clubs?" All players come in various shapes and sizes. Your body type and swing with a properly executed club fitting will match to your golf equipment. This is important. Why? The game much is easier as you will not feel the need to manipulate the club during the golf swing with a set of properly fitted golf clubs.
A golf club fitting session will differ in the length of time that it will take. The period of time will depend on if you are being club fit for irons only, a driver or a complete set. You should not go through a fitting session when you are tired, as you will need to hit several golf balls during the golf club fitting.
