Golf Travel Bag

Are you in the market for a new golf travel bag? If so, then more than likely you have not had to purchase one for quite a period of time and more than likely the golf travel bag that you are looking at today is nowhere near your old one. Today, the manufactures use many different lightweight yet durable materials to make lugging your clubs through airports much, much easier.

If you have not bought a golf travel bag in a while here are some things to keep in mind as you go to make your purchase:

Airline Approved
• Manufacturers know how difficult traveling can be nowadays with all of the new rules and regulations that have been implemented. Most golf travel bags or golf bag travel covers meet airline requirements for size and weight of checked baggage which takes the guesswork out of packing your clubs.

Hard Rubber Wheels
• Hard rubber wheels don’t crack like the plastic wheels used by less protected bags.
• The design of the wheels on a wheeled golf travel bag ensure a smooth and quiet ride.
• Recessed for added protection.

Recessed Locks and Latches
• Turbulence and mishandling could cause you less than secure golf bag travel cover to pop open mid-flight. With unbeatable locks and latches a significant amount of protection is added to ensure safety from rough handling.
• Industrial-strength steel makes the locks and latches strong and durable.
• Secured with strong bull-nosed rivets.

Steel Axles
• Inferior protection includes use of aluminum axles but manufacturers have wised up and changed the material used to ensure quality and durability. Steel axles are the smarter choice for golf travel bags.

Molded-in Handles
• The handles on some larger golf travel cases are super strong and a structural part of the case. There is nothing to fall off, tear or get caught on a conveyor belt.

Having all of the above built into your golf travel bag will make getting through any airport easier and your entire golf trip more enjoyable.

Travel Bag: An Education

I am new to the game and have had to learn how to play golf due to my new job. I now need to buy a golf travel bag. Admittedly, I know very little about them. Can you give me a quick education on them?

Sure can. First, CONGRATULATIONS on your new job as well as starting to play the great game of golf. Here is your quick education:

A golf hard case is as it sounds. It is a case that you place your lightweight stand bag or golf cart bag into the hard case for their security and it provides the highest amount of protection. Typically, with a hard case, you will not have extra space to pack clothes or golf accessories.

Since a hard golf travel case provides the most protection for your golf clubs, hard cases are a smart choice for the golfer who flies to the majority of your golf vacation spots. When it comes to storage at home or on the road, hard cases take up more room than other styles. Hard golf cases might not make as much sense as hybrids or soft covers if you do not fly to many of your golf vacations.

Most soft travel bags are made of nylon and have padding built inside of the travel bag itself. Many of the manufacturers also add internal pockets to these bags which allow you to pack your golf shoes and other accessories in your travel bag. In addition, these bags have wheels to make it easier to maneuver around the airport or hotel.

I would not be doing my job writing this article if I did not tell you that if you fly on one airline the majority of the time, it would be wise to check with them prior to your purchase about size and weight restrictions of a golf travel bag. As you know, the policies are different with each airline. Oftentimes, airlines will cover any damage incurred when your clubs are in a hard golf case. You also must keep in mind that the bulk of a hard golf case also makes it difficult to fit into the trunk of many rental cars.

VGS Golf has customers in Detroit, Michigan, Cleveland, Ohio, Albany, New York, Bridgeport, CT, San Antonio, TX, Salt Lake City, Utah, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Trenton, New Jersey, Williamsburg, Virginia, St. Paul, Minnesota, Indian Wells, California, Peoria, Illinois, and Glendale, Arizona.

How To Buy The Right Golf Travel Bag

My wife and I are getting ready to go on our first golf vacation together. We both need to purchase a golf travel bag for our golf bags. Can you give us any info on what we need to be looking for in a golf travel bag? Is a golf travel bag unisex? Any help that you can give us is greatly appreciated.

First of all, go to the internet or a local golf store to learn more about golf travel bags. Now that you have some good information, make a list and jot down the features that would be "nice to have" and another list of features that are a "must have." The level of protection that you will need will be determined by the type of golf vacation you will be taking as well as the golf vacations you may take in the future. If your future golf vacations are only a drive away, then your needs will be more in the lines of lust a softer golf travel bags. If you will be traveling by bus, train or with an airline and you are not handling your own bag, it is highly suggested to go with more protection as typically the bag handlers do not care as much about your golf clubs as you do.

Most people who buy golf travel bags take road trips as well as fly. These golfers are regular golfers who like to take their clubs with them when they go on vacation and not rent a set while on their golf vacations from the respective golf course. You need a high degree of protection when flying, since your clubs have to be protected by the rough handling they can get on and off the aircraft. Again, the bag handlers do not care as much about your golf clubs as you do.

A golf travel bag is Unisex as far as how they operate. A golf travel bag can come in a variety of colors and so some woudl see this as a way to differientiate a golf travel bag in to a male or female category.

Finding A Golf Cart Bag That Fits Your Needs

Is it time to replace your golf cart bag? Depending how much you play, the golf cart bag is a very important piece of golf equipment. The reasons are simple. Obviously, it is very important because it assists you with the storage and transportation of your golf clubs as well as other golf equipment. With the size of a golf cart bag, you can easily carry your clubs, tees, markers as well as other things you will need during your round of golf. The bag itself does not necessarily have a direct correlation to your score however, it can allow you to carry items that could make your round of golf more comfortable and more enjoyable for you.

The basic golf bag comes in three sizes. The first is a staff golf bag or tour golf bag. Obviously, this name comes from the professionals that are on staff with a certain company to promote the company’s products. The second is the golf cart bag. These bags are typically not quite as large as a staff or tour bag and are meant to be placed on the rear of a golf cart. These golf bags are not meant to be carried by the average player during their round of golf. A golf stand carry bag can be used on the back of a golf cart as well as carried by the player during the round. These bags are typically about 4 pounds in weight prior to adding your golf equipment. Depending on the golf you usually play, any one of these styles can suit your needs.

In determining the kind of golf bag will best suit you and the type of golf that you play, you need to first decide if you walk or ride most of your rounds of golf. If you walk the majority of your rounds, you will need a golf stand carry bag. You may choose to also have a cart golf bag for trips or special occasions. In addition, you will need to think about your typical golf club and how your golf clubs are normally transported about the club. Do you have to personally carry them quite a bit or is the staff able to assist you with your bag? I think that you get the drift, the more that you carry your own clubs the more you need a golf stand carry bag.

The golf stand carry bag is a smaller bag designed for those who are prone to walk the golf course or have to transport their own clubs around the club. These lightweight golf bags are designed for the players comfort as they are carried by the player. Although these bags are light weight they can hold a full set of golf clubs (fourteen), golf balls, range finder GPS unit, tees, umbrella as well as a rain suit. These bags typically have room for a pair of golf shoes for when you travel.

The staff/tour bag is the largest selection of golf bags which is available, they are much larger that the travel/carry bag or the cart golf bag. You see the professional golfers on TV use these golf bags. However, they do not personally carry them due to their weight. They travel with caddies to help them instead. The amount of equipment that these golfers can carry is as much as they would like and an average PGA Tour Bag is 40-45 lbs with all the equipment in it. The price for the staff tour bags is substantially higher than that of the cart golf bag or the travel/carry bag.

The golf cart bag is a smaller version of the tour bag. Again, these bags are deigned to ride on the back of a golf cart. The pockets are typically designed for easy access as the bag sits on a golf cart.

Determine your golfing habits and with this information make an informed decision on which bag would best suit you and allow you to enjoy the great game of golf.

Soft Travel Bag Vs. A Hard Travel Case

As you are getting in to the market for a new golf travel bag, you should be asking yourself a few questions so that you make the correct purchase to best suit your needs. This questions should be along the lines of:
  • Do you travel frequently with your golf clubs?
  • What is your budget for a golf travel bag?
  • Do your golf trips mostly include air travel or auto travel?
While looking to find the best golf travel bag for yourself, you should be asking yourself these types of questions before you go on your next golf trip or golf vacation.

First lets talk about a soft golf travel bag. It is typically made of a canvas type material and padded on the inside and they have a hard bottom to protect your golf bag. In addition, these type of bags have wheels to help golfers transport their gear from location to location.

Advantages to soft golf travel bags include that you can also carry other golf gear. Many soft golf travel bags, such as the Izzo golf travel bags, allow you to have extra room with the interior pockets within the bag that allow you to pack golf shoes, clothes or other golf accessories. In addition, this type of a golf travel bag will break down for easy storage in your hotel room or at home while you are waiting to go on your next golf trip.

In contrast, some people do not think that these bags give you as much protection for the club heads as a hard golf case. In my experience, I have not found this to be true. I take my golf towel an weave it throughout the shafts to give some extra protection along with the padding. Again, I have never had a problem with a golf shaft breaking while on a golf trip. If you are not comfortable with this, then you can purchase a "stiff arm" golf travel accessory.

A golf hard case is as it sounds, very hard. It is a travel case that when you place your lightweight carry stand golf bag or golf cart bag into it you are certain that they will be secure within the case. With a hard case, you typically will not have extra space to pack clothes or golf accessories.

Since a hard golf travel case provides the most protection for your golf clubs, hard cases are a smart choice for the golfer who flies to the majority of your golf vacation spots. Often, airlines will cover any damage incurred when your clubs are in a hard golf case. However the airline are becoming more stringent with the higher fuel costs and are starting to charge for luggage that is over-weight or of a large size. If you fly with one carrier more than others it would be smart to call them and ask related questions before you make your purchase.

When it comes to storage at home or on the road, hard cases take up more room than other styles. The bulk of a hard golf case also makes it difficult to fit into the trunk of many rental cars. Hard golf cases might not make as much sense as hybrids or soft-covers if you do not fly to many of your golf vacations.
