Start Playing Golf

Are you looking to get some more exercise, spend more time in the great outdoors aor maybe you are looking to spend more time with your spouseThere are three basic ways to learn how to play golf.

Take An Individual Lesson - There are many other things that you would not attempt to learn yourself. However, everybody thinks that hitting a little white ball can not be that hard so they try it themselves or they have a friend teach them how to play golf. Just as if you are cooking or building a building there are some fundamental things that need to happen so the end result is reached. An individual lesson is the best way to get the most individual attention to your swing and you should see the quickest results. When first learning how to play golf, I would suggest taking thirty minute lessons and not an hour lesson. The reason why is that you will be hearing a lot of new information and you will only be able to process so much of it. The Professional should start with putting and gradually move farther and farther away from the hole. In addition, you will physically be asked to do things that you are not used to doing and you will tire quickly during the early lessons.

Take A Group Clinic - Learning in a group is another way to learn how to play golf. Finding a beginner clinic will place you with other new golfers who are at the same skill level and can turn into your new playing partners. Typically during a group clinic, the instructor will give a presentation to the group and then allow everyone to spread out on the range tee and will spend some individual time with each student. If you like to learn at your own pace this is a good place for you to start. Before you sign up for the clinic, make sure that the clinic will cover all aspects of the game. The clinic should spend time on putting, chipping, pitching, full swing and the rules. This way you are exposed to all aspects of the game. A clinic that goes to the range every meeting is not going to do you much good once you get your golf ball up and around the green. What do you do then? Learning how to putt and chip is very important when you are first learning how to play golf as more than 50% of your shots will be considered short game shots. Learning these shots will be the quickest way to lower your scores.

Golf Instruction Books and Golf instruction DVDs - Third way to learn how to play golf is to teach yourself the game through reading golf instruction books, watching golf instruction DVDs as well as actual trial and error. Obviously this will take the longest to master. However, if score is not your main objective and gaining more exercise or spotting nature during your round is more important to you then this is (by far) the most inexpensive route to take.

2006 Ryder Cup - The K Club Ireland

The 2006 Ryder Cup has been called the greatest Ryder Cup in history! The only thing that didn't go according to plan for the Europeans during the 2006 Ryder Cup at the K Club was having Darren Clarke make the winning putt, since Clarke is from Ireland. Instead, they had to settle for a convincing victory that resulted in an historic third straight loss for the overmatched United States.

The final tally of the week was 18 1/2 Europeans to 9 1/2 US, the same margin of victory the Europeans finished with after their win at Oakland Hills outside Detroit in 2004. After this week at The K Club, the Europeans have now outscored the Americans 95-73 over the last six Ryder Cups, an average of nearly four points difference per contest.

2008 Players Championship DVD - TPC At Sawgrass

Follow the winner Sergio Garcia around the TPC at Sawgrass as he won the 2008 Players Championship. The unexpected leader of the golf tournament was Paul Goydos after three rounds. The winds played havoc with the entire field and 72 holes were not enough to settle this battle. The playoff began on the ominous 17th hole with the island green. This hole decided the championship in a hurry as only Sergio Garcia was able to place his golf ball onto the green. Believe it or not, after accepting the trophy, he thanked Tiger for not being in the field that week!

The TPC at Sawgrass is laid out over 415 acres in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Now known as one of Pete Dye's masterpieces, the golf course has not always been praised by the PGA Tour players. The idea was to build a golf course that would bring out the best players in the field and that was far from what the sentiment was. In 1982, The TPC at Sawgrass held the first Tournament Players Championship and was won by Jerry Pate Jerry Pate is known for then diving into the lake next to the 18th green along with then Commissioner Dean Beman and for winning a PGA Tour event with an orange golf ball.

The TPC at Sawgrass Is home to one of the most-recognizable and most photographed golf holes in the world. Originally it was Pete Dye's wife Alice Dye who suggested building the Island Green. Reluctantly Pete Dye went ahead with the idea and this has ironically become the hole he is best-known for creating.
